Russell has been associated with the Club since 1960 as a junior when his first achievements started to roll in, winning the Scottish Boys’ Championship in 1968, and as a Boy & Youth Internationalist, captained the team against England .
In 1979 he took up the position as professional at Cowal Golf Club and went on to many successes on the Tartan Tour, winning over 100 tournaments, including the Dunbar Pro-championship 3 times and the Sunderland Masters 4 times.
These successes led to him being Order of Merit winner 5 times as well as top earner.
In his time he has held 14 course records, played a record 8 PGA Cup Matches (1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2000) and was UK Club Pro Champion in 1986 & 1987.
He was European Club Pro Champion 1987, 1988 & 1992 won the Temes Greek Open Senior Tour in 2001 and has played 7 times in the British Open. His best place in the Bell's Scottish Open was 8th.
Through his shop at the Club he supplies lessons, equipment, daily/weekly hire of clubs and trolleys, and carries out repairs and maintenance – keeping all requisites in stock.
